Dear Friend of COSI Toledo,
On behalf of the entire COSI Toledo Team, I would like to extend a sincere thank you to the extraordinary community that we called home for the last 10 years. We have welcomed more than three million children and their families through our doors to witness astonishing demonstrations, explore hundreds of interactive exhibits and become inspired by science. National awards for community service and numerous distance-learning awards for outstanding educational content have recognized COSI Toledo.
Our Board of Directors worked extremely hard to respond to COSI Toledos financial challenges in a fiscally prudent manner. Staff costs were cut by over 50% and overall expenses were cut by $1.2 million for our 2007 fiscal year. Unfortunately that was not enough, and we closed our doors to the general public on December 31, 2007 after a loss of our second operating levy attempt.
After a visit, a young man known as Darren, age 10, wrote COSI is a great place for kids because almost everywhere you go there is something new to learn or something mind boggling to encounter. Our mission is to provide the spark that get kids excited about science.
Unfortunately, Darren cannot visit the science center anymore, but it is still possible for COSI Toledo to come to his school, but only with your support. A small group of us have reduced our pay and committed to continue staffing our science festivals, distance learning and school outreach programs in our schools while the Board of Directors investigates all opportunities to reopen the science center.
We have received numerous calls and letters from people asking how they can help. If you are able to make a donation - every penny donated will enable us to bring science education to your community. You can make a difference.
